Dear Commissioner Goodell:
Hundreds of NFL players protested the National Anthem this weekend. Unbelievably, some even did so on foreign soil. According to a quote attributed to you in Sports Illustrated, you are not only tolerating this disrespect for our country, but you are "proud of our league."
With all due respect, Commissioner, you have a big problem. The NFL's ratings are falling. One recent poll found that 34% of Americans are less likely to tune into NFL games as a result of these protests while just 8% were more likely to tune in.
To avoid a complete collapse in ratings and revenue, the NFL must earn back the respect and trust of Main Street America.
At future games, we urge you to invite local veterans who have served and sacrificed for our country to stand on both sides of the field. As they take their places, fans and players should be encouraged to stand for the National Anthem in honor of our country and the brave men and women who have served America in our Armed Forces.
